Greetings golfer,
Ashford’s future in the top level of the East Kent League now lays in the hands of the other teams in the top division.
Ashford completed their league programme on Saturday with an away match against Sittingbourne and went down 4/1 with Stuart Biden and Dave Bible being the only winning pair from five. However, on Sunday they fared better by beating Princes at home in the semi-final of the EKL Cup.
This was an existing encounter and with both teams finishing with 2 1/2 points the outcome was decided but the nominated pair of Mark Penfold and Callum Gardiner winning on the first of the sudden death playoff holes.
Ashford now meet league leaders Canterbury in the final which is due to be played at Sene Valley before the end of September. Hopefully results will go Ashford’s way in the league leaving them in the top flight having gained promotion last season and they also defeat Canterbury in the final of the cup which they won last year. The team manager, Robert Wright, would like the thank,on behalf of the club, all those players who have taken part this season, which ends on the 7th October at Sene Valley who are hosting the Jamboree. Ashfords team of three pairs will be selected in a week or two.
Have a great week,
Mark.
