All the news from around the Globe... Away from the cold of our little island, the world’s golf tours are starting to hot up in some of the greatest locations. The U.S. Tour whirled into Torrey Pines, California whilst the European Tour was out in Dubai. Winning the respective events were, Englishman and world number one, Justin Rose, incredibly with an almost complete change of club manufacturer. Very rarely does a change in equipment equal instant success, you may well remember the trouble Rory McIlory had a few seasons ago. But Rose, with his new Honma equipment, looked completely untroubled as he cruised to victory by a two-shot margin. In Dubai, it was the American, Bryson DeChambeau, recording a seven-shot victory. But it wasn’t DeChambeau who grabbed the headlines, it was China’s Li Haotong who became the talking point after falling foul to one of the ‘new rules’ introduced at the turn of the year. Li Haotong was penalised two-shots after his caddie was deemed to have aided his alignment for a short putt for birdie on the final green. Li holed the putt to earn himself what he thought was a share of third place, but shortly after play, the birdie four was changed to a six, dropping him outside the top ten and costing him over 80,000 Euros in prize money…ouch! For your reference, Li could have avoided the penalty if he had backed off the stroke and retaken his stance.
